While slugging firewood on Saturday, a married man, Victor Smith, received serious injuries when the log he was pulling swung round and knocked him over; striking him on the head. Help was "immediately procured snd Mr Smith was taken to the Reefton Hospital, where it was found that he was suffering from a. fractured skull. His condition is serious. Later in the evening William Schwass went to the hospital to enquire after Smith. On leaving the building he fainted and fell on the concrete steps. He was also admitted to hospital with a fractured skull. He was operated on yesterday morning, but he died in the afterjvoqn. Schwass was a single man, 34 yesre of age. He was the eldest son. of Mr E. Schwass, of Rotokohu.
