BOROUGH ELECTIONS Candidates for the borough elections will address the electors this evening in the Redcliffs Community Hall and on Tuesday next in the Sumner Town Hall. Hockey The team to represent the Sumner Ladies' Club against Kiwi at Sumner at 3 o'clock this afternoon, is as follows:—Misses M. Creagh, I. Creagh, T. Loaguet, J. Chilty, J. Parsons, V. Butteriield, D. Pye, E. Fenton, J. Williams, N. Clark, Mrs T. Dacre. The team for the six-a-side tournament on Monday will be chosen from the following:—Mrs T. Dacre, Misses V. Butteriield, T. Longuet, J. Parsons, E. Fenton, M. Creagh, I. Creagh, and J. Chitty. Although it was one short, the team had a good win last week by 1 goal to 0. The teams to represent the Redcliffs Men's Club this afternoon*are as follows: Seniors.v. Selwyn, "t Hagley No. 7, at 3 p.m.—O. Matthews, I. Sutherland, J. Burke, H. Le Page, R. Thomson, C. S. Sutherland, R. Shand, R. Dale, J. Coleman, G. Burke, E. Grafton. Juniors v. University, at Linwood Park, at 3 p.m.—G. Gough, I. Donkin, H. Barton. W. Patterson, M. Simpson, E. Hillsdon, A. Bates, R. Evans, L. Dale, E. Jackson, J. Misckle. The senior team won against University last Saturday. R. Thomson, J. .Coleman, and E. Grafton have been chosen to play in the trial game to select the Canterbury team. Association Football The fifth grade team will play Marist at Hagley Park No. 4 at 1.30 p.m. to-day. Jubilee Celebrations Mr P. Dick presided over a meeting of the sports committee held this week. The chairman reported a good response to the appeal for prize money. It was agreed to award first and second prizes for the most effective and most original fancy dresses for boys and girls, and-a first prize for the cheapest costume for boys and girls. Prizes will also be allotted for decorated motor-cars, bicycles, go-carts, and umbrellas, and the divisions for the baby show were decided on as follows:—Under six months, over sis months, and under 18 months.
Returned Soldiers' Association The members of the Sumner-Red-cliffs branch of the Returned Soldiers' Association held a dance in the club rooms last Wednesday evening, there being a large attendance. Miss N. Lawson and Mr G. Murray were the winners of the lucky spot dance, and the Monte Carlo was won by Miss Murray and partner. The music was played by Mr Reg Woods: Sumner Methodist Church The members of St. Paul's Methodist Churoh, Sumner, have made arrangements for a public welcome to the Rev. H. E. Bellhouse, who has been appointed local minister, at a meeting in the church next Thursday. The Rev. L. A. G. Brooks, who has been appointed superintendent of the Woolston district, will attend and will be welcomed at the same time. Sumner District Hig:h School A very successful concert was given in the Sumner Town Hall by the primary and secondary pupils of the Sumner District High School on Thursday and Friday evenings. The hall was filled on each evening and the items loudly applauded. The programme was as follows:—A story in song, "The Pied Piper," by the infants with Richard Gurnsey as the Pied Piper, and John Smith as the Mayor of Hamelin; recitation, Jean Stevenson; folk-dance, the infants; physical drill, the pupils of the secondary department; a fantasy, "The Spick and Span Stone," by the pupils of Standards I. and II.; an operetta, by the pupil* of Standard 111.
