SPORTS FIXTURES FOR TO-DAY
| GAMES IN ALL CODES FIRST ROUND OF WINTER TENNIS With the promise of appropriate weather, and plenty of attractive play, the winter sports competitions will all be continued this afternoon. The list of fixtures includes football in ail three codes, hockey, cross-country running, the first round of winter tennis, and .basketball. On the oval at Lancaster Park, Old Boys will meet Merivale. The other senior Rugby Union games will be: University and Sydenham, at Rugby Park; Athletic v. Christchurch, Lancaster Park south; and Albion v. Sunnyside- at Sunnyside. Linwood has the bva All senior games will begin at 2.45 p.m., excepting the match at Sunnyside, which will start at 2.30. Association and League Hurley Shield Association football matches will be continued this afternoon. The chief game will be the match to be played at English Park, at 3 p.m., by the Nomads and Thistle teams. Other matches will be Western A v. Rangers, Spreydon Park, 3 p.m.; St. Albans v. Western B, Malvern Park, 3 p.m.; and Linwood v. Technical, at English Park, at 1.30 p.m. The chief Rugby League match will be played bv the Linwood and Addington first grade teams. at Sydenham Park. New Brighton will meet Hornby at Hornby, and Ruru wil? meet Sydenham, at Spreydon Park. Wairriairi has the bye. All senior matches will begin at 2.45 p.m. Winter Tennis To-day will see the commencement of the 1935 winter inter-club competition of the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association, a fixture that has proved very popular in the last few years. Nine teams have entered,-and although few of the province's first-night players are likely to take part competition will probably again be keen. The draw for to-day's matches on the hard courts at Wilding Park, commencing at 1.30 p.m.. is as follows:—Canterbury College v. Linwood A. Cashmere v. Elmwood A, Elmwood B v. Linwood B, New Brighton A v. Fendalton. New Brighton B has the bye. Cross-Country Running
Cross-country runners have their training well under way for the racin2 events. FurCEer pack runs will be held to-day. Fixtures are: University oflicial opening from Bishop Julius Hostel. Cranmer square: Marist, from the home of Mrs Gillooly. C 4 Hawkesbury avenue; Christchurch, from the Sign of the Takahe; Methodist, from the home of Dr. J. H. Simpson, 56 Puriri street. Riccarton: Baptist, from the home of Mr and Mrs Bissett. 135 Petrie street Shirley; Presbyterian, from the Cashmere Presbyterian Church, at the corner of Dyer's Pass road and Macmillan avenue; Anglican, from the home of Mr and Mrs G. Milne, 177 Linwood avenue; Technical, from the Ensor's road pavilion. Men's and Women's Hockey The draw for the men's senior hockey competition, to be played at Hagley Park, is as follows: Technical v. Sydenham, Hagley No. 6: University v. Trinity. Haaley No. 7: and Redclifi's v. Selwyn, Hagley No. 3. For the senior A women's hockey the draw is as follows: Training College v. West Christchurch, Hagley Park No. 4, 1.30 p.m.; Technical A v. Pukaki, Hagley Park No. 4, 3 p.m.; Technical B v.' Rangiora. Hagley Park No. 5. 3 p.m.; Digbv's v. Aranui, Hagley Park No. 5, 1.30 p.m.; Southbrook v. Canterbury College, Rangiora, 3 p.m.; Hornby a bye. Basketball The Canterbury Basketball Association will continue its competitions at South Hagley Park. The draw for the seniors is as follows:—Technical A v. Training College A, court 1; A.B.C. A v. St. Mary's A, court 2; University A v. Digby's A. court 3; Cathedral a bye. Play begins at 2.15 p.m.
