A report of the delegates of the meeting of the North Canterbury Rugby Sub-Union was received at a meeting of the North Canterbury (Rangiora) Club, when the president, Mr L. I. Hawkins, presided. It was decided to send a letter of sympathy to Mr L. Martyn,' a member of the committee, in his illness. The following teams were chosen for competition matches to-morrow:— Seniors v. King's Jubilee Holiday All the business premises, banks, arid Government offices in Rangiora will observe a full holiday on Monday in commemoration of the King's jubilee. The day ha-J already been declared a Government holidav. but it was left to the discretion of the shopkeepers whether the business premises would close. The Mayor (Mr W. A. Rowse) requested that the town should declare a holiday, and to this the business people have acceded. Address oa Mission Work An address on mission- work in the New Hebrides was given by Mrs T. A. Will at a meeting of the Salvation Army Home League yesterday afternoon. The speaker was introduced i by Mi's D. Houghton, who presided, and after her address was thanked by Mrs L. Walls. During the afternoon a song was sung by Mrs J. E. Dawson. Farewell to Connty Clerk j To arrange a farewell to Mr and Mrs J. R. Wilkinson, who are leaving the Ashley district to live at Rangiora, tho j members of the Ashley County Council decided yesterday to form themselves < into a social committee, with power to add, and to open a subscription list io recognise suitably the services of Mr Wilkinson, who has retired from the position of clerk to the council after nearly 25 years. Mr Wilkinson has been given two months' leave of absence on full pay by the council. His retirement began from Wednesday. Golf A meeting of the Rangiora Golf Club was held last evening, with the president, Mr A. Buckingham, presiding. Accounts amounting to £23 were passed for payment. 3£ing's Jubilee Celebrations The celebrations to be held at Rangiora on Monday to commemorate the King's jubilfte, were discussed at a meeting of representatives of local hociea and schools of the Rangiora county last evening. The Mayor of Rangiora (Mr W. A. Rowse) presided. Mr J. T. O. Stephens, on behalf of the procession committee, reported that special fancy dress classes had been arranged, as well aa four age classes open to any child. The children would assemble at the school at 1.30 p.m. before rr.ovina off in a procession from the Town Hall. The Mayor said that the ministers were making arrangements for the combined church service at Victoria Park. Mr Stephens said that there would be between 600 and 700 children present. It was stated that each child woull receive a souvenir badge. Mr E. D. Farrant, reporting on the sports programme, stated that 28 novelty events had been drawn up. it was decided that the procession would leave the Town Hall at 2 p.m. for Dudley Park. OXFORD The annual meeting of the Oxford branch of the New Zealand Farmers' Union was held on Tuesday night, when the chairman, Mr H. G. Parish, presided, A credit balance of £46 was shown. The chairman thought provision should be made for getting a supply of water from the Waimakariri for the plains. He had observed that where turnips were growing on land ploughed out of old grass, the depredations of the diamond backed moth were much greater than when they were growing on land after some other crop. Byrch, "Vulcan Fiats," Motunau. DARFIELD The usual fortnightly social was conducted by the Darfield Football Club. The prizes were won by Mrs H. Otten and Miss A. Stewart, aad Mr H. Otten and Mr F. L. Gibson. Music for the dancing was played by Mr R. Denny and Mr L. Westwood. Mr F. Gibson Was master of ceremonies. The closing of the season afternoon of the Croquet Club, was held in the lounge of the Memorial Hall. The "bring and buy" table did good business. Competitions were held, and the trophies won during the season were presented by Mrs H. Barker (president). Sympathy was expressed by Mrs Barker with Mr J. R. Cullen and family in the recent death of Mrs Cullen, who was patroness of the croquet club. As a mark of respect, members stood in silence. A vote of sympathy was accorded Mrs D. McMillan in her illness. An enjoyable evening was given by Mr and Mrs J. E. Youngman (Charing Cross) at their home in aid of funds for the Roman Catholic bazaar. Bridge, musical items, and games were played. Prizes for the bridge were won by Mr W. Pole, and Mrs B. Norton, and the euchre prizes were won by Mr Whyte, and Nurse Finlayson. The annual meeting of the local branch of the Farmers' Union was held in the Malvern Agricultural and Pastoral Association's rooms on Monday evening. The president, Mr D. J. A motion of sympathy with the relatives of Mrs Y R, Cullcn was passed It was decided to recommend that the present embargo on stock should remain in force, prohibiting the importation of animals from Great Britain. • SPRINGBANK The rainfall for April was 1.52 inches, compared with 1.31 inches in April, 1934. The number of days on which rain tell was 11. Rainfall for 1935 to date is 4.74 inches, compared with 7.49 inches in the preceeding year. LITTLE RIVER A meeting of the King's Jubilee Committee to make final arrangements for the celebration was held in the Coronation Library, Little River, on Tuesday. Mr J. O. Coop presided. It was reported that arrangements for the procession were complete, and it will leave the Little River station in the following order:—Little River Silver Band, returned soldiers, guides, Oddfellows, school children, Maoris, and the general public. It will proceed down the main road to the Awa-Iti Domain. Addresses will be given. A haka will be given by Little River Maoris. During the evening a commemoration oak will be planted in the domain. The bonfire will be lit at 7 p.m. A grand fireworks display will be held in the domain. Should the weather be unsuitable, the celebrations will be postponed till later in the week. , j The Easter tennis tournaments which were held on the Little River courts among the Okuti, Star, Little River, and Okiri Clubs were concluded on Saturday. FREBBLETGN The annual meeting of householders of the Frebbleton district was held on Tuesday evening, when Mr J, Smitfi presided. The financial statement showed a satisfactory position, the general account showing a surplus of ,£23 14s 4d, while there is a credit of £ll 16s 2d in the special account. The headmaster, Mr A. W. Pitt, reported that the roll number had risen during the year from 94 to 90, but that school had opened this term with only 88 children on the roll, and some difficulty was anticipated in maintaining the average attendance of 81 during (he winter term, this average being necessary if the staff of three teachers is to be retained. The meeting expressed itsalS strongly in favour of the school age being lowered again to five years. A resolution was passed that steps be taken towards increasing the fund already established for school baths, and to endeavour to have the baths installed as soon as possible. KIMBERLEY The annual meeting of householders of Kimberley was held at Kimberley. i\lr C. Bilbrough, chairman of the school committee, presided. The bal-..nce-sheet, which, with the report, was -dopted, showed a credit of £l7 4s ■ld. It was decided to continue with the opening of the school at 9 a.m. To commemorate the King's Silver Jubilee it was proposed to distribute inscribed readers to the pupils. This was followed 'jy supper served by the ladies of the district, in charge, of Mesdamea Reid, Harding, and Beattie. A dance was then held to music played by the orchestra, and Messrs E. Campbell and L. Barker. This is the beginning of a series of entertainments to be held during the season. Mr T. Reid was master of ceremonies. I
