Although the introduction of daylight saving was regarded as a boon to sportsmen, summer time has provided less playing time for Wellington's .cricketers. Attention to this absurdity was drawn by Mr P. B. Broad at a meeting of the Wellington Cricket Association's management committee when a proposal to extend the hours of play was under discussion. "Actually we have been getting less cricket under daylight saving than previously," he remarked. "Speaking with the greatest respect for the umpires, the attitude taken up by them over daylight saving and the proposals to extend the playing time is unfortunate." He recognised that it was hard for the umpires to stand out on the playing fields throughout the afternoon, but it had been expected that the advancing of the clock would bring about a longer afternoon of cricket. Now, however, with daylight saving the hours of olay were from 2 p.m. to 6.30 p.m. Mr A. Ronaldson mentioned that when;summer time was first introduced: play had gone on until 7 p.m. for a couple of seasons, the chairman adding that it was really the opposition of the umpires which caused a reduction in playing time. Another of the Vickers Vildebeesto machines for the Royal New Zealand Air Force was taken yesterday to Wigram aerodrome. The parts of the first machine have now been unpacked ;».nd stored, but assembly will not be '.indertaken for some time. One of the Moth machines delivered recently at Wigram has been assembled for the Wellington Aero Club, and delivery will be taken by the club in a few days. Another machine for the West Coast Aero Club has been assembled and tested, and will be taken over when an instructor and engineer have been appointed by the West Coast Club ;CTAL Friday Bargains—You'll save money to-day at DraytonJones, Ltd.
