CANTERBURY AUTO-CYCLE CLUB
The Sternol Cup competition, which was introduced this season, has been brought to a very successful close, the results being:—J. Bourne 25 points, 0. Edwards 11. W. Dumpleton 8. N. B.' Newton 8, A. Cooper 5, A. Veale 5, V. Neate 5. A. Flitcroft 4, R. Carpenter 3, J. Hunter 3, J. Dunn 3. Ripley 3, J. Deyell 1. V. C. Browne 1, S. Mechen 1, V. Pearcey 1, B. Davey 1. J. Bourne will have the honour of being the first holder of the Sternol Cup. Bourne has proved himself a very versatile rider, being equally at home in trials, hill climbs, beach, and T.T. races. The winners of the other cups are:Rosengrave Cup, for 350 c.c. T.T. championship, J. Bourne: miniature cun for 350 c.c. hill climb, J. Bourne: miniature cup for 500 c.c. hill climb, N. B. Newton; miniature cup for unlimited hill climb, A. Veale; McCleary Cup for 50mile beach race, L. Evans; ; Carpenter Cup for 50-mile beach race, fastest time, /L. Evans. The' cups will be presented at the annual meeting to take place shortly. The moral of the following incident will probably be of some use to touring motor-cyclists:—A member of the club returning by road from the West Coast last Week met two motor-cyclists stranded at the Cass river with a broken rear chain and a handful of connecting links of the correct chain size but of another make .of chain.
