BOYS' HIGH SCHOOL

MEETING OF PARENTS' ASSOCIATION VISIT OF MINISTER FOR EDUCATION * A meeting of the Christchureh Boys' High School Parents' Association was held last evening at the Training College Hall. Mrs W. F. Kent Johnson, convener of the inaugural meeting, presided. After welcoming those prcse t and speaking briefly of the work of the meeting, Mrs Kent Johnson called on Mr R. C. Abernethy, who had drawn up the constitution, to pre- | sent it to the meeting. The constitution, which was adopted, fixed the annual subscriptions as follows:—Active members, 2s; associate members, ss; honorary members, no subscription. It was laid down that meetings should be held on the first Wednesday of each month. Election of Officers The election of officers resulted as follows:-—Patron, the Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes, M.P. (subject to his consent); president, Mi; E. S. Brittenden; committee, Mesdamcs Westby Shcpparcl and W. F. Kent Johnston, Messrs C. E. Anderson, St. Gourde Atkinson, A. J. Cade, W. H. Ford. A. U. Ford, J. Thomson, G. W. Napier, G. Brew, G. P. Myers, and J. Mackenzie were j also appointed subject to their consent. I The headmaster and all members of the stall of the school, members of the board of governors, and the president and secretary of the Old Boys' Association were elected honorary members. Minister Welcomed The Minister for Education, the Hon. 3. G. Smith, attended the meeting. The Minister and Mrs Smith were welcomed by the chairman and by Mr C. T. Brew, vice-prinpical of the Christchureh Technical College, and Mr C. T. Asehman, chairman of the Canterbury College Council. Mr G. J. Lancaster, headmaster of the Boys' J-Ugh School, expressed the hope that the Minister would visit the school. Other speakers were Mr R. C. Abernethy and the Mayor (Mr D. G, Sullivan, M.P.). Mr Sullivan said that lie was welcoming the Minister to Christchureh for the first time since he had taken his portfolio, He also iipoke of the value of parents' associations. The Director of Education, Mr N. T. Lambourne, who accompanied the Minister, was also given a hearty welcome. The Minister and Mr Lambourne both spoke in reply, thanking the meeting for its welcome and expressing interest in the work of the association.
