THE KING'S JUBILEE Lyttelton will celebrate the silver jubilee of the King's accession in a very thorough manner. The Lyttelton Borough Council and the Lyttelton Harbour Board have combined to arrange a programme of events for Monday. At 10.30 a.m. there will be a procession through the streets of bands, decorated vehicles, cars, friendly societies, old identities of the port, school children, and the general public. Prizes will be given for the best decorated motor-car, motor-truck, and horsedrawn vehicle, also jtor .the best fancy costume, male and female, the most amusing costumes, and the cheapest costumes. There will also be competitions for children's fancy dress. The procession will conclude in the school grounds.
A regatta, arranged by the Canterbury Yacht and Motor Boat Club and the Banks Peninsula Cruising Club, will be held in the afternoon commencing at 2 o'clock. There will be sailing races for six classes and a motor-boat race. At 6 p.m. a monster bonfire will be lighted at the top of the Bridle Path by boy scouts. The fire will be visible both in the port and on the plains. At 7 p.m. there will be a display of coloured fire from launches in the inner harbour. The celebrations will conelude with a display of fireworks at 7.30 from the Gladstone Pier. The display will be on an elaborate scale and the Lyttelton Marine Band will be in attendance. It is expected that the Railway Department will run an augmented train service to Lyttelton-in the afternoon and evening, to enable Christchurqh people to attend the regatta and the .evening celebrations. The Mayor (Mr W. T. Lester) has re-, quested the citizens of Lyttelton to observe the day as a Public holiday, on the occasion of the King's Silver Jubilee. Old identities of Lyttelton, who desire motor accommodation in the procession to be held in. Lyttelton on Monday morning, are requested to communicate with either the Town Clerk (Mr F. HobbsJ, or with Mr J. Voyce, London street. The Lyttelton Club will hold a Jubilee dance in the Club Hall, on Monday evening. Particulars of the programme of Jubilee celebrations to be held in Lyttelton on Monday are advertised under "Amusements." St. Saviour's Church The annual meeting of parishioners of St. Saviour's Church, West Lyttelton. will be held in the Parish Hall to-morrow night. Personal Mr and Mrs H. Hoyle, and their daughter. Miss D. Hoyle. have left Lyttelton to live in St. Albans. Municipal Election The Labour party candidates for the Lyttelton Borough Council, Messrs R. Cairns, J. Flood, V. Rees, A. Sanders, and J. Sargentina wiU address s public meeting of electors in the Oddfellows' Hail to-night. Mr T. Young will preside, British Sailors' Society The twenty-third annual meeting of the Lyttelton branch of the British Sailors' Society was held in the Seaj men's Institute last evening, Mr J, T. | Norton presiding over a satisfactory attendance. U, K? 1 FP o ** statied that despite the difficulty inherent in the worfc< of the institute through counter-»tfarac-tions at; Christchurch and the increase im comfort provided in the crews' quarters in modern ships, the work of the institute had been carried out successfully. The number of officer* and men visiting the institute during the year totalled 5789, and 88 stops were visited by the aiisMoner. Six seamen were visited in hospital and 83 semen in need of assistance were granted aid. Mintey, stated that the work had been
carried on on much the satne lines a* in previous years, but the attendances at entertainments arid Sunday services had declined. He regretted tlsat more men did not. accept his invitation to visit the institute, A successful book and coin afernoon, held at the residence of Mrs George Helmore, had re*. suited in 104 books arid a: large number of magazines and other periodicals being received. A gift of 156 books had been received from the Boofcjovew* Library, also 200 magazines from Mr* Fryer. The following were elected to the: board of directors:—Messrs J. T. Norton (president), W. G.
