More thai) 2000 local authorities in Great Britain are completing their preparations for the King's silver jubilee celebrations next month. In most cases counties have voted funds tor decorations and illuminations, bonfires, processions and treats for young and old, in addition to the thanksgiving services, which are to be common to most local celebrations. It is certain, however, that the najor spectacles, including the Royal procession and the processional drives, will bring a number Of sightseers to London and most elaborate arrangements haye been made for the orderly handling of the crowds. All along the route of the main procession platforms have been erected, and on every available site are pylons draped in blue and gold and surmounted by Royal emblems. Elsewhere schemes for the decoration of streets and buildings are being rapidly advanced. Among the distinguished visitors to London foi the occasion the Dominion Prime Minister will take a prominent place. Some of the many Irdian rulers who will take part have already arrived and others are on their way to England. I'rincc's Appeal A record response has been received to the Prince of Wales's recent broadcast appeal for the Jubilee Trust, which is to be administered in the interests of the youth of Great Bri'.ain. The appeal was addressed If) nil classes of the community, and small subscribers were i vitod to send gifts in unstamped envelopes. More than £32.000 has alreadv been received in this way, and a further 10,000 letters have yet to be opened. More are arriving by every post. Jubilee Stamps The King has approved the design of the jubilee stamps. Ul, Id. I.UI, and 2d, to be available for two l onths from May 7. They are designed by Barnett Freeman, and are twice the si;:e of the ordinary sunups. The colours are unchanged, but the photogravure process strongly contrasts light and shade. The head of the King is Bertram Mackennal's design. The symbols include laurel and oak leave:;, acorns, olive branches, and the Royal crown. Jubilee day will he the anniversary of the introduction of the first adhesive stamp in 1840, of which only 41.600 could be printed daily, compared with 15.000,000 nowadays. Specially-designed postal orders are aiso being printed.
