GUERRILLA WARFARE IN TYROL
- --• UNCONFIRMED AUSTRIAN REPORT DENIAL IJY ITALY VIENNA. April 23. According to unconfirmed reports guerrilla warfare is being waged between the police and Germanspeakmg inhabitants <>t the region ceded to Italy after the war. The Italian Government is slated to have suppressed the news. Italian messages declare, however. that the reports are unfounded. Germany's success in the Saar lias increased anti-Italian propaganda, and it is believed that responsible South Tyrolese are violently resisting attempts to convert them to Italians. The use of the German language is proscribed, and only Italian is allowed in the schools. There are rumours of bomb outrages at railway bridges and electricity works and of attempts having been made on the lives of prominent citizens. The police, it is alleged, are making mass arrests and the courts are severely punishing the olfenders.
A terrorist organisation has been discovered in Brixen. Those arrested were not the ringleaders, but students, sons of business men, who said that they received explosives from an unknown source under a promise of payment for committing successful outrages.
