LOCAL BODY ELECTIONS

CANDIDATES AT THE POLLS NOMINATIONS CLOSE FEW CHANGES IN SOME COUNTIES Nominations for membership of aorne of the local bodies in Canterbury closed at noon on Wednesday. In the majority of boroughs and counties, however, the nominations will not eloss until to-day, and some will not close until to-morrow. The nominations are for membership of county and borough councils; county representatives on harbour, hospital, and power boards; river trusts, and rabbit boards. In some counties no election will be necessary, and in others there will be an election in some of the ridings only. Some ratepayers have not been sufficiently interested in the elections to nominate enough candidates tor the available seats. There will be no election in the Halswell County, and there will be only one change in the council. The Malvern County is in a similar position. Elections will be held where necessary on May 8. Power Board Mr Edward Henry Rowell has been re-elected unopposed to represent Springs County and parts of Malvern and Halswell counties on the SpringsEllesmere Electric Power Board. ELLESMERE COUNTY The County Council Messrs John Hcslop and Robert Thomas McMillan, for the Irwell riding, and Messrs John Nixon and Andrew Quigley, for the Leeston riding, have been re-elected. For the Southbridge riding there are three candidates for two seats Messrs Albert Anderson, John Peter McEvedy 'sitting members), and Fosbrook Hugh Greenwood. Hospital Board Mr Frank Rowell has been re-elected to represent Ellesmere and Springs counties on the North Canterbury Hospital Board. Power Board Messrs Robert Thomas McMillan and Henry Neave have been return, d unopposed as representatives of the Ellesmere county, part of Sehvyu county, and the town districts of Leeston and Southbridge on the Springs-Ellesmere Electric Power Board.
