MR GEORGE BOWRON

The large crowd of mourners and friends attended the funeral yesterday afternoon of Mr George Bowron, of Hackthcrne road, Cashmere Hills, revealed the very high esteem in which he was held in Christchurch, and the general regret his death has caused. The wide representation of the Methodist Churcn ana its various organisations and of many business firms bore witness .o his popularity as a churchman and as a citizen. Short services were hero yesterday afternoon, both at the house anci at tne graveside in the Sydenham cemetery, the officiating ministers being the Rev. Clarence Eaton and the Rev. M. A. Rugby Pratt, who were assisted by the Rev. E. Drake, the Rev. W. Grigg. and the Rev. H. Ryan. The chief mourners were Mrs Bowron Mr S. Bowron (a brother), Mrs G. T. Lucas fa daughter), Misses E. and W. Bowron (daughters), and Messrs S. G. and F. L. Bowron (sons). The pall-bearers were Messrs W. Morley, G. S. Salter, F. Thompson, H. Holland, M.P., M. MR LOUIS CORONER Business premises in Rakaia were closed for a considerable period yesterday, while families in and around the township attended the funeral of Mr Louis Cordner, of Fendalton, who was until last year manager of the Rakaia branch of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd. In addition to Rakaia families a large number of city friends attended the funeral, which left Mr Cordner's home in Clyde road, Fendalton, early yesterday morning for the Rakaia Cemetery. The funeral was the largest there has been in Rakaia for years, and was ample evidence of the high regard in which Mr Cordner was held by the people of the district, and his friends in other parts of Canterbury.

The service at the house was conducted by the Rev. F. B. Redgrave, and at the graveside by the Rev. H. A. Barnett..

The chief mourners were Mrs Cordner, Mr E. J. Cordner, Misses E. and M. E. Holmes, and Mrs C. Buchanan. The pall-bearers at the house and graveside were Messrs C. Featnerstpne, A. Doig. J. C. Doig.
