GOVERNOR-GENERAL OF AUSTRALIA
* LORD TRENCHARD SUGGESTED LONDON, April 8. The Australian Press Association understands that when Mr J. A. Lyons (Australian Prime Minister) meets his Majesty at Windsor tonight to confer about Australia's next Governor-General, one of the names to be submitted will be that of Lord Trenchard, Commissioner of Metropolitan Police, who will soon retire from that position.
Lord Trenchard has for some time been regarded as likely to receive a high Dominion post, and the present emphasis on Imperial defence may mean that the appointment of such an outstanding figure in the Royal Air Force would be regarded as suitable for Australia.
[Lord Trenchard js a Marshal of the Royal Air Force. He joined the army in 1893 and served through the Boer and Great Wars. He was assistant commandant of the Central Flying School, 1913-14, and commandant, 1914-18. From 1918-29 he was. Chief of the Air Staff. He has held his present position since 1931.1
