NORTH BEACH PROGRESS LEAGUE

♦ RESOLUTIONS AT MONTHLY MEETING fflr A. Peverill presided over the monthly meeting of the North Beach Progress League and Beautifying Association held in the North Beach Hall last evening. In reply to the league's request to have three electric light poles removed from the road, MrT.E. Thomson reported that it was the policy ot the New Brighton Borough Council and has been the policy of past councils to provide a 16ft footpath along the Esplanade to Beach road. Only one pole was out of line, and that would be rectified. Mr Thomson's report was received and accepted. In moving that the Post and THegraph Department be asked to irtsUU a slot telephone machine at the junction of Pacific street and the Esplanade Mr J. Kelly emphasised the need of a telephone in this part of the district.

Mr R. D. Martin, in supporting the proposal, stated that in the case at the last three house fires there was considerable delay in getting in toads with the fire brigade, and a telephone was urgently required. The resolution was carried, and the secretary was instructed to write the department. ~ It was also decided that a deputation, consisting of Messrs P. E. I* Broad, J. Kelly, and A. »Peyerill. and Mrs E. J. Williams, should interview the chief postmaster in support est tto* letter. The same deputation was azk» pointed to interview the chief post* master about the- extension of the ! afternoon postal delivery to Pacific ! street.

Mr A. Peverill reported that a deputation had waited on the manager of the Christchurch Tramway Board in. reference to the trolley-bus leaving North Beach, and the manager had agreed that if the league approved the buses would in future leave the Memorial Hall at the scheduled time and stop at Thomson's store only if requested. Mr P. E. L. Broad reported that a quantity of concrete blocks could be purchased from the Tramway Board. On his resolution it was decided to write the New Brighton Borough Council asking it to purchase a quantity for marking an entrance to the beach.

The secretary was instructed to write to the New Brighton Borough Council requesting that it ask the Post and Telegraph Department to have the poles removed irozn the footpath in Racecourse road
