HARBOUR BOARD ELECTION
CANDIDATES ANNOUNCED PORT CHRISTCHURCH LEAGUE'S NOMINATIONS Mr h. C. Walker and Mr G. PPurnell have been'announced as candidates for the Lyttelton Harbour Board, on the nomination of the Port Christchurch League. The secretary of the league, Mr R. B. Cotton, stated yesterday that a deputation from the league had waited on Mr Walker and Mr Purnell, and that they had agreed to its request to offer themselves for election. ~-,,.•« Mr Walker is a native of Christchurch, and has had experience in various branches of business. At the last general election he contested the Christchurch North seat, and m 1933 stood as an independent for the City Mayoralty against the present Mayor of Christchurch, Mr D. G. Sullivan, M.P. « Mr Purnell has been for many years interested in educational matters. He has been president of the School Committees' Association for three years, a member of the'Elmwood School Committee for 10 years, and its chairman for ftie last three. He is also the president of the Fendalton Burgesses' Association. For 16 years Mr Purnell has been in practice in Christchurch as a barrister and solicitor.
