MANY PRIESTS AND NUNS ARRESTED

♦ CHURCH SENSATION IN GERMANY CHARGES OF CURRENCY SMUGGLING . * BERLIN, March 29. Alter a series of raids on convents and monasteries in different parts of the country, a number of Roman Catholic priests, monks, and nuns have been arrested on charges of currency smuggling to the extent of £200,000. The Berlin correspondent of the "Daily Telegraph" understands that the accused are really the victims of an international swindler who offered to transfer money over the frontier by what he declared were legal means. The swindler's victims included the head of the Franciscan Order in Germany and a wellknown bishop. There is much indignation because the police entered the cells of the nuns.
