SUBSTITUTE FOR RADIUM

RADIO-ACTIVE SODIUM PRODUCED (Received March 31, 8.20 p.m.) LONDON, March 30. Recounting his researches at the conference of the Institute of Physics, Dr. J. D. 'rockcroft, of the Cavendish Laboratory, Cambridge, announced that radio-active sodium had been produced which was the equivalent of radium and could be used in the same way. He added that it would be dangerous to bs too optimistic because the adoption of the substance as a substitute would depend entirely on the cost of production. Professor J. A. Crowther declared it was possible in the future that these new radio-active substances would be produced and delivered at hospitals in vans.
