ORTHODOXY IN PRACTICE

TRAINING OF MASSEURS OUTLINED CONFERENCE ENDS "The difference between the orthodox and the unorthodox 'practitioner is that the orthodox practitioner knows his limitations and the unorthodox does not," said Miss M. L. Roberts, principal of the Dunedin Training School of Massage in an address 011 the work o£ the school, given at the concluding session of the conference of the New Zealand Trained Masseurs' Association on Saturday morning. "The only neon sign which the orthodox practitioner has to advertise himself is the reliability of his work," added Miss Roberts. Her address dealt with the training and equipment at tha school, its relation to the Otago University, and she ended with a plea for greater co-operation among the medical, nursing, and massage professions. The course was partly a university and partly a hospital one. The students enjoyed university status and facilities; some had taken university degrees. Miss Roberts also dealt with the new treatments tried out at the school, outlined and discussed suggested reforms in the training, and emphasised the need for greater facilities. She also suggested that the association might do more to welcome graduated students into its ranks. It was decided to hold the next conference in Dunedin in 1937.
