SPANISH POLITICS

RESTORATION OF THE MONARCHY That there seemed to be a very strong' party in favour of the restoration of the monarchy in Spain, was an opinion expressed by Mr George Burnes, of London, in an interview yesterday. Mr Burnes, who was until live years ago the manager oi the Christchurch branch of tne Australian Mutual Provident Society, spent six months in Spain and Morocco last year. He said that there was no possibility at present of former King Alfonso coming back to the throne, as he was definitely unpopular throughout the country. "The idea seems to be to put up Juan, the former King's fourth son, who is a midshipman in the British Navy," he said. "Juan is said to have all the necessary physical and mental qualifications for kingship, and would be acceptable to the Monarchist party. The strongest political party is that led by Senor Gil Rob'es, and it is believed that it would support the purely Monarchist party."
