PREMIER THEATRE

"WAKE UP. AND DREAM" AND "IF I WERE FREE" Commencing n three-day screening at the Premier Theatre, New Brighton, to-day, a double-star programme will be screened. The main attraction, "Wake Up And Dream," stars Russ Columbo, tlie new singing sensation, Roger Prior, ;:nd June Knight, together with a host of Hollywood beauties. Russ Columbo and Roger Prior play the principal male roles in the engaging screen play, and both contribute greatly to the success of the picture. In addition to his excellence as an actor, Columbo sings several numbers in a manner which made him famous on the radio, and Prior contributes a characterisation of a fast-talking, small-time vaudeville actor which is literally a comedy gem. The sprightly June Knight is delightful as their foil, and with the two men, forms the struggling vaudeville act which is usually just one jump ahead of the sheriff . . . until they go to Hollywood and become acquainted. Also in the cast is Henry Armetta, who furnishes hilarious laughter with his characterisation as the Italian opera singer. The second attraction, "If I Were Free," stars Clive Brook and Irene Dunne. The story is of a modern love affair enacted by two individuals who are prepared to ignore what Mrs Grundy and gossiping worldlings say. The pair are- victims of disappointing marriages when they meet at a party. Their new acquaintance is a stimulant for each other to carry on for each other's sake. But the conventional complication sets in. Although Irene gets a divorce, she is harassed with blackmailing threats from her former husband. The man seeks a divorce from his wife—but is rebuffed. The solution to their difficulties comes very dramatically. Box plans for all reserves are at Hudson's, chemist, or patrons may telephone the theatre, 37-447.
