UNEMPLOYMENT
O PAYMENT DURING EASTER HOLIDAYS DECISION OF 11! K HOARD I From Our Parliamentary Reporter. I WELLINGTON, March 29. The Unemployment Board has decided that Good Friday, Easter Saturday, Easter Monday, and Anzac Day, April 19, 20, 22. and 25 respectively, shall be regarded as holidays for all relief workers other than those employed under schemes 4A. 4F. 4D, 7. •ind 11. This information was given by the Minister for Employment (Sir Alexander Young) in the House of ReDi'esentatives to-day. in reply to an ufyent question by Mr F. J ones (Lab., Duncdin South), who asked whether J lie Government would make provision for the payment of all relief workers, including those in camps, for the Easter holiday period, and also whether any concession would be made to men who desired to return to their homes. Mr Young said that any man who was eligible under the arrangement that had been made, and who would ordinarily be employed on the days mentioned, would be paid as though he had worked. On the other hand, men who would be normally standing down on any of those days would not be paid for the relative day or days. As for the men in camps, Mr Young said that where employing authorities decided temporarily to close the camps during Easter, second-class railway fares at one-quarter of the ordinary rates would be available to camp workers, under the same conditions that applied during the Christmas holidays. The decision whether camps should or should not be closed, how- j ever, was entirely within the jurisdic- | tion of the employing authorities.
