CHEVIOT T.C.

I TO DAY'S MEETING j i The Cheviot Trotting Club's annual race meeting will be held to-day, and with good-sized fields engaged there is the prospect of excellent sport. The meeting caters mostly for horses aspiring to higher honours, and it usually strives to produce maiden performers that go on to win good races. For the convenience of Christchurch sportsmen a special train will leave Christchurch at 7.53 a.m. and will commence the return journey at 5.55 p.m. The day's programme is as follows: 11.45 a.m. — TRIAL HANDICAP, of 40 sovs. 3min ssec cla»s. One niilo and a quarter. Audrey Dillon scr Silk Bonny .. scr 15 oin bay llirl . . scr Silver Lelitia scr Brigadier ■ • set Sleigh. Bells . . scr Forest Maiden scr True Reflection scr Glitter • • scr Muriori . . scr High Noon . . scr Olive King . . scr Juj'u MclChvyn ecr Otama Chimes scr Prince de Oro per Chiming Prineo Koydon Wrack (T.) ]2 Itoyal Palm . . scr Few of the horses engaged in the Trial Handicap have anything in the way of public form to recommend them, and the favourite is likely to be •Prince Roydon, who has won a number of races at non-totalisator meetings, and showed promising form at the recent Banks Peninsula meeting. The unhoppled trotter Chiming Wrack has shown form that entitles her to support, and though Olive King has yet to win a race she has performed well on occasions, while Otama Crimes is on the improve. The finish may be confined to Prince Roydon, Olive King, and Otama Chimes. 12.30 p.m.— DOMKTT HANDICAP, of 'ls sovs. Unhoppled trotters. Dmin 40see class. One mile and a half. Braemar . . scr Princess Guy scr (lift .. scr Scrilibler .. scr (ii-:itis • . s,, r Sonoma Boy . . scr Harvest Lady M-r Winn««' .. scr Lament . . scr The trotters engaged in the Domett Handicap are of poor class, but a good word is spoken of Gift, an aged mare by Sonoma Harvester, trained at Rang'iora. Harvest Lady and Braemar may present stern opposition. 1.15 p.m.— CHEVIOT CIIP HANDICAP, of 150 sovs. 4min 50sec class. Two miles. Bide-a -Weo .. scr Directum .. 12 De Soto .. scr Pull Hand .. 12 Kdfrar Wallace scr Amonis (T.) .. :s'j Graham Direct scr Midshipmaid .. 'IS Insolvent . . scr The Cheviot Cup will be contested by a field of nine improving pacers, and on his recent running at Hutt Park De Soto will probably be the elect of backers. He is a very speedy pacer, and there seems no reason why he should not race well over two miles. Graham Direct is a goou pacer once on the journey and his Timaru running entitles him to solid support Insolvent hails from the strong C S. Donald stable, and Full Hand is consistent and speedy. Amonos, 3 trotter, has previously raced well amongst the pacers and constitutes a real danger, while Midshipmaid would only have to be at her best to make things interesting. The race bears a very open appearance, and the favourites should be De Solo, Graham Direct, and Insolvent. 2 p.m.— MINA HANDICAP, of ■"»'> ~ 7hCC class. One mile. Handicapper has raced prominently on several occasions, and the dislance, one mile, of the Mina'Handicap should suit him nicely. Prince do Oro and High Noon should prove the best of the remainder. 2.45 p.m.— SPOTS WOO D HANDICAP. »f <iU M>\>. Hmin •I 3 sen class. One mile and a half. Prince Roydon, escaping a penalty, should prove the best of the remainder, and Otama Chimes is a possibility. 3.::o p.m.— BOLLARD MEMORIAL HANDICAP, of 85 sovs. 2min 23sec class. One mile. Argolis .. scr Irish Pencil .. scr Betty Jinks . . scr Peter Mitchell scr Col lego Boy .. scr Baby Logan .. 12 Dandy Locandu scr Bidc-a-Wce .. 12 , Golden Square scr Do Solo .. 12 Good Companion scr .lean Drusus .. 12 Insolvent . . scr Directum . . 24 The 14 pacers engaged in the Bollard Memorial represent fair class, and the distance will suit Argolis, who has shown some improvement of late. De Soto and Insolvent must again be considered.

4.15 p.m.— PARNASSUS HANDICAP, of Ijs sovs. Unhoppled trotters. smin 7sec class. Two milos. All the horses engaged in the Parnassus Handicap will be making their second appearance during the day, and again the chances of Gift, Harvest Lady, and Bracmar will be considered by backers. 5 p.m.— MACKENZIE HANDICAP, of 85 sovs. smin 2sec class. Isabel Derby has shown promise on occasions, and the distance will suit Betty Jinks.
