George Arthur Brest, better known by his screen name of George Arthur, who was formerly a British stage comedian, was arrested on his arrival from Nassau (Bahama .Islands) to-day on a charge of stealing a valuable bracelet from Stephen Rophael, a London banker, in Cannes. According to the police, information against Arthur was supplied by a New York society woman, who on the request of Arthur, nx.d not knowing that it was stolen property, brought the bracelet to America, and later gave it to him here. Arthur is held under a technical indictment of smuggling, although he may be deported to France V« stand trial for theft. Arthur gained considerable prominence in silent motion pictures, and teamed with the late Karl Dane, but since the talkiej he has -been inactive.
