♦ Archbishop Le Fanu Elected LOCATION OF PRIMACY MOVED (UjriTKD PRKS3 ASSOCTATtoX —BT ELKCT*IC TELBGJWPH —COPTBIGHT.) (Received March 14, 9 p.m.) SYDNEY, March 14. The House of Bishops, after a meeting in Sydney, announced the election of the Archbishop of Perth, the Most Rev. Henry Frew en Le Fanu, as Primate of the Church of England in Australia. An official statement said: "The , issue from the beginning was the relative importance of the traditional location of the Primacy in Sydney, and the value of the Archbishop of Perth's long experience of Australian conditions and problems. The House of Bishops, therefore, decided to elect Archbishop Le Fanu, who has been acting as Primate since the death of the Archbishop of Sydney." The Most Rev. Henry Frewen Le Fanu, M.A., has been Archbishop of Perth and Metropolitan of Western Australia since 1929. He is a son of Mr W. R. Le Fanu, formerly Commissioner of Public Works in Ireland, and was born in Dublin in 1870. He was educated at Haileybury, and Kebie College, Oxford. He was ordained in 1894, since when his appointments have been:—Curate of Poplar, 1894-99; Chaplain to the Bishop of Rochester, 1899-1901; Chaplain of Guy's Hospital, 1902-04; Archdeacon and Canon Residentiary at St. John's Cathedral, Brisbane, 1909-15; Coadjutor Bishop of Brisbane, 1915-29; Archbishop of Perth and Metropolitan of Western Australia, 1929. Archbishop Le Fanu was married in 1904, and his wife died in 1926. He has two sons and three daughters. The former Primate of Australia was the Archbishop of Sydney, the Most Rev. Dr. J. C. Wright, who died in Christchurch on February 24, 1933, while on a holiday visit to New Zealand. The Most Rev. Dr. H. W. K. Mowll was appointed, to succeed him as Archbishop of Sydney.
