NEW AIR SERVICE IN BRITAIN
LONDON TO EDINBURGH (EKITISH OmCIAL WIRELESS.) (Received March 14, 5.5 p.m.) RUGBY, March 13. A daily air service between London and Edinburgh, via Leeds and Newcastle-on-Tyne, will be operated from the beginning of next month by the North Eastern Airways Company. It is proposed to use Airspeed Envoy twin-engined aeroplanes, and in view of their cruising speed of about 150 miles an hour the journey between Heston airport, on the outskirts of London, and the terminus in Scotland, is expected to take two and threequarter hours, including intermediate stops. The return fare between London and Edinburgh will be £lO, and the single fare £5 14s, both inclusive of ground transport between the centre of the cities and the aerodromes. PROGRESS OF AVIATION PASSENGER MILES FLOWN LAST YEAR (Received March 14, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, March 13. 'The Under-Secretary for Air, Sir Philip Sassoon, said that while he was at present unable to make a statement regarding the recent conferences in Australia on the Government's air mail policy, a telegram received about the proceedings was generally encouraging. He stated that passenger miles were flown last year in regular United Kingdom air transport services in Great Britain and abroad. DEMAND FOR AIRCRAFT ORDERS NEARLY DOUBLED LONDON, March 13. Lord Londonderry (Secretary of State for Air), in an address to the Parliamentary Air Committee of the House of Commons, said that nearly twice as many aircraft were ordered in 1935 as in 1934, and the entry of officers and airmen more than doubled. A new civil link would be established to Hong Kong, branching at Bangkok from the Australian route.
