CO-ORDINATION OF TRANSPORT
* NEW COMMITTEES BEING FORMED GENERAL IMPROVEMENT SOUGHT (SrtCIAL TO THE TRESS.I NELSON, March 14. The Nelson Harbour Board has nominated Mr W. C. Harlcy as its representative on the Nelson Distrid Transport Co-ordinating Committee. It is proposed to have such a committee functioning in each transport district, with power to investigate passenger and goods transport, with a view to making recommendations for the general improvement in coordination of transport in the Dominion. Mr Hariey, in accepting nomination, said that transport affairs keenly interested him. It seemed tc him to be well past the time when harbour boards should be consultec on some of the regulations that had been made. They had had no voice in transport matters although thej represented a veYy important section, and should also, in "the neai future, represent an air service which would be even more important. POSITION IN CHRISTCHURCH Mr J. D. Hutchison, of Christ church, chairman of the No. 8 Dis trict Transport Licensing Authority to whom this message was referred said that the setting up of distric transport co-ordinating committee was a new step. So far he had heart nothing about the establishment o a committee in Christchurch. H' would hear of it as soon as anyone, he said, and as a representative had been appomted for the Nelson Harbour Board, he thought an early an- ; nouncement would be made as to ; the position in Christchurch.
