Reference to the Tariff Commission's report was made in the report of the Auckland Importers' Association, Ltd., which was presented at the annual meeting this week. The commission's, report, it was stated, had supported the great majority of the requests that had gone forward from the association. The greater part of the commission's recommendations had been given effect by the Government when the tariff had been revised, and the generally accepted view was that the commission's report and the Government's subsequent action had been reasonably favourable to importers. Naturally there had been some disappointments, and in some directions it was thought that the rates of duty should have been reduced much more than had been the case. The success that had attended the representations made through the association and the New Zealand Importers' Federation was full justification for the extensive work that had been undertaken.
