a sixty-sixth birthday The Prime Minister, the R[. Hon. G. W. Forbes, celebrated his sixty-sixth birthday on Tuesday, having been born at Lyttelton on March 'l2, 1069. After being educated at the Christehurch Boys' High School he entered business, later joining his father's firm at Lyttelton, where he remained from 183G to 1893. He was a prominent Rugby football player, and captained the Canterbury representative team in 1892. In 1893 Mr Forbes drew a section in the first Cheviot land ballot and commenced farming, living at first in a tent. He is still farming the same property as part of a holding of 1600 acres, which he shares with his son. After standing unsuccessfully for j Parliament for Hurunui in 1902 he was elected in 1908, and has held the seat since. When Sir Joseph Ward's Government was formed in 1928, Mr Forbes held the portfolios of Land and Agriculture. Two years later, on the retirement of Sir Joseph, Mr Forbes became Prime Minister. He continued in the office when the Coalition Government was formed in 1931.
