CHEVIOT The annual meeting of the Cheviot Collie Club was held in the Public Library on Saturday evening. Mr J. D. E. Winskill presided. The balancesheet showed receipts as £ll4 9s 3d and expenditure £122 15s Id, a loss of £8 5s lOd on the year's working. Assets in cash were £29 7s 3d, and other assets valued at £l3 18s, making a total of £43 5s 3d. The election of officers resulted:— Patrons, the Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes, Messrs G. R. Macdonald, D. A subcommittee to draw up programme, prize money, and entry fees was set up, consisting of Messrs P. F. Childs, J D. E. Winskill, J. Paton, John McAdam, R. Clifford, and the secretary. A sub-committee was set up to procure sheep for the trials, and those appointed were Messrs John McAdam, E. Rutherford, ?.nd P. F. Childs. It was decided to forward a remit to the Canterbury Collie Dog Club Association, requesting that body to draw up a system of handicapping winning dogs. . . A number of friends met in the Public Hall on Tuesday evening at a smoke concert organised by the Cheviot Sports Club to say good-bye to Mr A. B. Cockerell. The president of the club, Mr A. S. Murray, presided, and those present included officials of the sports club and representatives of the business houses of Cheviot. Mr Murray referred to the interest that Mr Cockerell had taken in the ciub. A few years ago the club was an amateur body, and it was decided, as support was Calling of!, to revert to professional status. At that time (here was a debit balance of £l4. Mr Cockerell was appointed secretary, and it was largely owing to his work and organisation that the debt was cleared at the first sports meeting, and the year closed with a credit of £3B. Mr Murray expressed the regret of those present at Mr Coekerell's departure from the district and thenwishes for his recovery. Mr Cockerell said that the sports club work had always been of interest to him. On behalf of the Cheviot Sports Club Mr Murray presented. Mr Cockerell wilh a walking stick. Items were contributed during the evening by Mr G. Struthcrs and Mr J. Smith. Mr Cockerell left Cheviot yesterday for the south, where he will recuperate after his long illness. OXFORD Oil Tuesday the Oxford Mothers' Union held a picnic in Lees Valley, where they were joined by a number of the residents of Ihe valley. The day was fine and the trip out was most enjoyable. After lunch a service was conducted by the Rev. J. F. Ault. The parly arrived back in Oxford at 7 p.m.
SWANNANOA A meeting of tin.' Swannanua Dramatic Club was held in the Swannanoa Halt on Monday. It was decided to hold a meeting every mouth in the hall. Miss Webber was elected secretary, and Miss Jane Winter producer. A meeting of the Swannanoa restdents was held on Monday night to discuss holding a harvest home carnival dance. The idea was received favourably, and Mr Skevington was elected chairman and Mr M. Ifarinan secretary. Another meeting will be held later on. Both the Anglican and Methodist churches have held their annual harvest thanksgiving. The orphanages will benefit by the produce. KOWAI BUSH The Hall Social Club held a most successful Hag 500 social in the hall last week. The prize-winners were Mr and Mrs Montgomery and Mrs McKeown, all of Springfield. Miss Muriel Williams (Bletsoe avenue) is spending a holiday with Mr and Mrs Russell (Torly, Kowai Bush). Miss Brenda Smart (the Hermitage) has returned to Kowai Bush after a few days in Christchurch. DUVAUCHELLE The fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Perseverance Lodge was held in the hall, Barry Bay, on Saturday, N.G. Bro. T. A. Stewart presiding. Sick pay was passed for two brethren. The following were elected as delegates to attend the district meeting on March 14 at Okain's Bay:— P.P.G.M., Bro. Haglund, P.G. Bro. R. E. Jones, and P.G. Bro. R. A. H. Stewart.
