Speaking at the opening of a gateway erected by the Mount Albert Borough Council at the entrance to Fowlds Park, in memory of Sir George Fowlds, the Mayor of Mount Albert, Mr R. Ferner, said Sir George Fowlds was a citizen not only of Mount Albert but of the whole Dominion. He thought it would be fitting if some really national memorial were raised by the people of the Dominion to the memory of one of the truly great figures in New Zealand public life.
