HAYMAN LOCATED
NX MISSIONARY IN HANDS OF BANDITS REPORT FROM PEKING (UMITED PBJSSS ASSOCIATION —BI BLECTBM TELEOBAPH —COPYBIGHT.) (Received February 21, 12.30 a.m.> PEKING, February 20. Through an indirect channel, news has reached the British Legation here that the New Zealand missionary, Mr Arnolis Hayman, and M. Bosshardt, his Swiss companion, are still in Hunan province, where they were taken soon after their capture by bandits at Kwei Chow last autumn. This is the first word regarding the captives received for some time. In addition to making strong representation to Nanking authorities, the legation has sent an assistant military attache, Lieutenant Millar, to Changsha, in order to maintain contact with the Governor of Hunan. [News of the capture by Chinese bandits of Mr Hayman, who is a native of Auckland, and of M. Bosshardt, reached New Zealand on October 10, 1934. Mr Hayman has been attached to the China Inland Mission since 1913, in charge of the mission at Kweiyang. He returned to China after a long leave in New Zealand two years ago.]
