JURY'S VERDICT
* CLAIM FOR DAMAGES (PEESS ASSOCIATION TELEGEAM.) INVERCARGILL, February 20. Damages in respect of Injuries received in a motor accident on the Edendale-Mataura road last July were claimed in the Supreme Court by Wil-" liam Randolph Webb, of InvercargiU. He sought to recover from the chair- _ man, councillors, and inhabitants of the county of Southland, the sum of £2500 general damages and £172 4s 9d special damages on the ground of alleged negligence. The plaintiff, in his statement of claim, said that while he was seated'in a stationary motor-car on the GoreInvercargill main road, near Brydone, on July 20, a car owned by the defendant corporation was so negligently driven along the road by one of its servants that it was driven with great force against the plaintiff's car, and the plaintiff was thrown out and seriously injured. The case was concluded to-night, when the jury returned with a verdict in favour of the plaintiff for £IOOO general damages and £l7 17s Id special damages. Counsel for the plaintiff moved for judgment in 'accordance with the verdict, while counsel for the defendant sought leave to address the court on a non-suit point raised by him during the trial. Mr Justice Kennedy adjourned consideration of both motions until tomorrow.
