BICYCLE PARKING
TO THE EDITOB OF THE PRESS. Sir,— Cycles appear to the casual observer to be ever on the increase, and I think the time has arrived when some method should be adopted at control. I would suggest a small annual fee to cover cost of registered disc to be attached to each machine, which would simultaneously protect the owner from the common cycle thief as the owner would have a corresponding disc in his or her pocket, etc. I v/ould further suggest that funds derived from the annual fee be utilised in erecting cycle racks similar to the one in Armagh street outside Armstrongs, in some of the principal streets and in busy areas. One has only to have a look outside Woolworths on a Saturday morning between 10.30 and 12.30 to observe the present haphazard method of bicycle parking. Further, if one places his or her machine against the fast disappearing verandah post to do a bit of shopping, when he returns it is a common thing to find half a dozen cycles placed against one's own. Perhaps a photographer of "The Press" may spare five minutes or so to focus some of these irregularities.—Yours, etc.. J. E. WILLIAMS. February 15, 1935.
