Mr Elliott, -who has been instructor in agriculture for Marlborough during the last six years, has been transferred on promotion to New Plymouth. Mr A. J. Parris, formerly of the Blenheim branch of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., and now of the Wanganui branch, arrived in Blenheim to-night. Visit of H.M.S. Diomede The Picton Borough Council advises that H.M.S. Diomede will be in port from the morning of February 19 until February 21. Masonic Gathering A representative gathering of Freemasons will take place to-morrow evening at Picton, when the foundation stone of the new temple for Lodge Waitohi will be laid by the Grand Master for New Zealand, Colonel J. J. Esson, C.M.G., V.D. "Clean-up Week" A general appeal to all citizens is being sponsored by the Mayor (Mr M. McKenzie). to make next week a '• "'clean-up week" to prepare the town for the reception of the visitors coming for the Fire Brigades' Conference and demonstrations. The Borough Council has taken the lead by cleaning up the streets and town reserves. Special attention is being given to areas and streets now in an untidy condition through drainage scheme operations. The Mayor makes an appeal to residents generally to take an active part in furbishing up business and residential areas. The tournament being held at the Marlborough Bowling Club"s green was continued last evening. the*third and fourth rounds being played, resulting in seven rinks being left in the final round to be played to-morrow evening. The draw is:— Wemyss v. Bain: Mackintosh v. Halligan, AVatt v. Mitchell. Smith a bye. The games will be of 11 heads or a time limit of 1\ hours.. At the Marlborough courts to-mor-row is to be played the return tennis match between the Marlborough and Nelson Clubs. Rifle ShootingThe Milroy inter-provincia! shield is to be competed for at the Vernon range to-morrow, when the Marlborough riflemen will meet a team from Nelson.
