Whitely) wrote stating that a I. a meeting of his committee a resolution was passed as follows:- "This committee takes strong exception to remarks, which had been made at Geraldine Borough Council meetings, reflecting upon the attitude of the committee towards arrangements upon the occasion of the Duke of Gloucester's visit. The committee had spent more than an hour in consultation with the council's deputation; had expressed its willingness to help as far as possible; had. made various suggestions, which the council later ignored, and had offered to assist in the purchase of flags for the children. It appears to the committee that the deputation had failed to give the council a correct report of the committee's attitude." The letter was received. The Mayor assured tlhe committee that, no discourtesy was intended. The application of Mrs A. Moncur for a year-to-year lease of the market reserve at a rental of £9 per annum was accepted. Mr A. J. Kerr's application for a lease of the Darby street reserve at a rental of 10s an acre a year was also granted, subject to his keeping the section free of gorse and broom. Mrs G. A. M. Macdonald, president of the Geraldine Plunkct Society asked permission to hold a street collection on Plunket Day, March 13, and to erect a street sign outside Morrison's. The request was granted. Mr H. W. W. Williamson wrote suggesting that the council erect signboards giving the names of the streets in the borough. He complimented the council and staff on the creditable and attractive state of the borough. It was agreed to place signs along Talbot street and the branches. The Mayor of Timaru (Mr T. W. Satterthwaite) wrote stating that He had made endeavours to say good-bye to their Excellencies, Lord and Lady Bledisloe, on the Timaru station dur-

ing their return journey from Dunedin. He had received the reply that Ihe best their Excellencies could do was to welcome the opportunity of an informal good-bye. The suggestion of stopping for an interval at the station was one which they would gladly adopt, the time-table permitting. Mr Satterthwaite invited Mr B. R. Maedonald to attend the informal farewell, which would take place on the station when the 8.40 a.m. express from Dunedin on Wednesday, February 27, passed through. The Mayor was appointed to attend.
