HOPE FOR DISTRESSED AREA
—« reopening of isk. steel I'LANT (Bfii nsu OFFICIAL WIRELESS ) (Received January 31, 7.5 p.m.) RUGBY, January 30. Improved prospects are offered to Jar row, which is a centre of the Tyneside "special area" where distress and unemployment have been particularly bad, by plans for reopening Palmers' large iron and steel works there. It is proposed to open the plant on the basis of 100.000 tons of steel ingots a year. Though this represents only per cent, of the steel ingot production for 1934 in that area, it will include a more diversified range of products.
