ROMAN CATHOLIC SCHOOL
NEW BUILDING AT DALLINGTON OPENING CEREMONY NEXT SUNDAY The formal opening and blessing of the new Roman Catholic School, situated at Gayhurst road, Dallington, will be held on Sunday next, February 3, at 3 p.m. Workmen are at present preparing the grounds for the opening ceremony. The new school, which is 75 feet in length and 25 feet in width, is similar in design to the new school at New Brighton. There are two classrooms with accommodation for 70 pupils, the rooms being divided by folding doors giving the advantage of one large room for use for social functions. During the winter months the building was very popular with the parishioners and their friends as a social halL The contractors were Messrs McCormack and Brake, of Riccarton. The Dallington district was cut off from the parishes of the Cathedral and St Mary's some 11 years ago, and incorporated in the parish now known as Brighton and Dallington. Since the church was built there it has become a more popular residential area, and there should be no lack of pupils for the new school. The ceremony will be performed by Bishop Brodie, and the following have signified their intention to be present:—The Mayor, Mr D. G. Sullivan. M.P., Mr H. Hawke, M.P., the Hon. W. Hay ward, M.L.C., Mr J. Liggins (Waimairi County Council), and Mr W. Spencer. The Hibernian Society ■will be present in regalia, and will form a -bodyguard for Bishop Brodie. A large number have responded to the invitation to be present, and afternoon tea will be served by the ladies. The Sisters of the Mission, Ferry road, have n been appointed to take charge of the school, and work will be commenced on Wednesday. Work will also commence at the new Roman Catholic School at New Brighton on Wednesday and there will be a welcome to the Sisters on Tuesday.
