LONG VOYAGE FROM ENGLAND

111 NGRY ( HEW AKUIVES AT MELBOFKNE MELBOURNE, January 31. The former Norwegian steamer James Cook arrived at Melbourne from Newcastle-on-Tyne direct with her crew in desperate need of fresh food after a passage of 67 days, during which a series of hurricanes was encountered. When the first news of the vessel's plight was received by wireless in Melbourne a pilot steamer was dispatched with provisions and tobacco. These were hoisted aboard the James Cook and the crew made a hasty meal of the first fresh food they had tasted for nearly two months. Captain A. Jackson said that after passing the Cape of Good Hope storms battered the ship and for days on end huge seas swept the small vessel from stem to stern. The James Cook, 2116 tons gross, will be employed in the Sydney-to-New Zealand timber service.
