EIGHT BABIES DEAD

STRANGE DISEASE IN AMERICAN HOSPITAL NEW YORK, January 29. A message from Tea Neck, New Jersey, states that eight new-born infants have died, and many others are ill in the maternity ward of the Holy Name Hospital. A mysterious illness has prevailed since January 1. Forty other mothers and their babies have been removed to other hospitals, and diagnosticians have been called in in an effort to determine the nature of the disease, which resembles intestinal influenza. Postmortems performed on several children are reported to have been inconclusive. Twenty babies contracted the illness, which, however, has affected no other patients.
