Is a local body responsible for expenses incurred by bathers who meet with accidents at municipal baths? This point arose at a recent meeting of the Morrinsville Borough Council, when a resident wrote stating that his daughter, a schoolgirl, had suffered a severe cut on the foot through treading on an empty tobacco tin that had found its way into the municipal swimming baths. The girl had been away from school for a month, and had had to have three stitches inserted in the wound. "In the circumstances I think the borough council should settle the doctor's and chemist's accounts," he added. Acting on the advice of the borough solicitor, the co ancil decided to reply that no liability attached to the council in respect of the accident.
Several yachts with coloured sails were cruising on the Auckland harbour last Saturday. The most striking was a small craft from the French schooner, Korrigane, which had a sail of a deep crimson with a dancing figure of blue set upon it. One of the Wakatere class also appeared with sails of a pale blue, and the staysail schooner, Medina, with a suit of deep tan. All three boats were thrown into bold relief against a background of the white sails of most of the pleasure fleet.
