THE ROYAL FAMILY

TO TDK gDITOS or TBS PRBSS. Sir.—"Fleet. Street" somewhat unkindly snubs "D.McD." for leaving the Prince of Wales out of the picture by paying, "There is at present no direct male heir to the Throne." He ("Fleet Street") then tells us that "(he only occasion on which Princess Elizabeth would have to give way would be if a son were born to the Duke end Duchess of York." I am surprised to hear this. 1 should have thought that if the Prince of Wales were to marry and have a son or a daughter Princess Elizabeths right to the throne would disappear.—Yours, etc., J.S.C. January 30, 1935.

TO THE EDITOR Or THE PRESS. Sir,—Apparently I did not make myself quite clear on the above subject. "Fleet Street's" reply about the Prince of Wales and the Duke of York is common knowledge, and does not require an answer. I was quite in agreement with your correspondent as regards the Duke of Kent's possible offspring, but when a newspaper of the standing of the Sydney "Bulletin' contradicts both of us and makes a .statement contrary to centuries of tradition, then one begins to think. Hence my letter. However, I am forwarding "The Press" tc> Sydney to the paper mentioned, asking for an explanation, and will be pleased to enlighten your correspondent in due course.—Yours, etc., D. McD. January 30, 1935.
