Nature Knowledge A COMMON SPIDER
(By A.V.C.)
Robert Thacker, Okains Bay, has sent a specimen of a quite common slider; a drab-coloured elongate creature, it belongs to a family the members of which do not spin webs of the beautiful open-work type
which is so familiar; some of them do spin a form of web, a small untidy mass of loose silk, in corners to entrap prey, but most of them merely construct a silken lair in a suitable cranny for their own shelter and take their prey by making an unexpected pounce. Nearly all members of the family are of very dull coloration, and most of them are distinguished by having relatively large fangs.
