SOUTH BRIGHTON GALA
♦— ? MEETING OF COMMITTEE At a meeting of the South Brighton Gala Committee, held in the South Brighton Surf Club pavilion last evening, general satisfaction was expressed that a net profit of £24 6s 9d had been made, although the gala had been postponed from New Year's Day until January 2 because of bad weather. Mr F. S. Woodward (president)# was in the chair, and there was a good attendance. The organiser (Mr H. Robinson) Te-. ported that he had attended a meeting of the standing committee of the New Brighton Borough Council, and had at the request of the council met the organiser of the Central Brighton Gala Committee to discuss the running of stalls by that committee on the day that the South Brighton gala was held. There was a written agreement that this should not be permitted, but mainly on the grounds that he had not officially notified the Central committee that the South Brighton gala had been postponed, the council, after hearing both sides, had decided that no action be taken. It was decided that the position of the South Brighton Gala Committee would not be prejudiced for next year's gala if the matter were left in abeyance in the meantime. The assistant secretary, Mr P. Buist, reported that subject to audit, the receipts for the gala amounted to £165 10s lOd, and the expenditure to £l4l 4s Id, leaving a net profit of £24 6s 9d, and that two stalls which, would be an asset for future gates were included in the expenses. NORTH BEACH committee of the North Beach Surf Club and New Brighton Fire Brigade will hold a gala at North Beach on . Saturday, in aid of their club's funds. Berry's Band will provide a musical programme, l and extra novelties and new side-shows have t?eu arranged.
