* NINETEEN MEN ESCAPE DEATH SENTENCES LONG TERMS OF IMJ'KISONMENT MOSCOW, January 17. Zinoviev, Kamenev, and 17 others convicted of counter-revolutionary activities, escaped Hie death sentence in spite of demands by the workers that they should be shot. Zinoviev was sentenced to 10 years' imprisonment, Kamenev to five years and the others to from five to 10 years. All the accuseds' property was confiscated. The tribunal save judgment thai the existence was proved of a coun-ter-revolutionary group, the chici members of which had already been sentenced for the murder of Kirov. vSome of the accused men, whose cases were postponed, gave evidence that, the "Moscow centre," of which Zinoviev was the chief organiser, frequently attempted to organise a counter-revolutionary blocaiming at a widespread struggle against the Soviet Government. The tribunal also announced that 49 others of the Zinoviev group were sentenced to concentration camps for four to five years and 29 exiled for two to five years. "Pravda," in a leading article before the sentences, said the curse of millions of fallen was on their criminal heads. The enraged voice of the whole country demanded their punishment.
