COMPLETE UNRESERVED DISPERSAL SALE OF THE FAMOUS CASTLEROCK ROMNEY STUD. WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 13, 1935, AT CASTLEROCK, LUMSDEN. OWING to the subdivision and sale of Castlerock Station, the Trustees in the Estate late T. L. Barnhill, Castlerock, Lumsden, Southland, have decided to disperse the famous Castlerock Romney Stud. Flock No. 172, N.Z.R.M.B.—one of the oldest and most successful studs of Romney sheep in New Zealand. On the occasion of the 1933 New Zealand Royal Show at Invercargill the .stud won signal honours, including the Championship, Romney Cup, and Shield with a mature ram; Reserve Champion and first and second in four-tooth rams; and the Cooper McDougall and Robertson Cup for the Best Sheep of Any Breed at the Royal Show. The stud, in which a number of New Zealand Royal and many other noted champions have been bred and used, has been continued under the one management for the last 30 years. The sheep represent the very best New Zealand type, both for carcase and wool, and, being bred at a fairly high altitude, and in an environment where they are annually subjected to severe winter and snow conditions, are certain to thrive exceptionally well if transferred- to heavier country or a warmer environment. The nock has been heavily culled annually, and is recommended as one of the BUM ROMNEY STUDS SUBMITTED TO AUCTION IN THE HISTORY OF STUD STOCK BREEDING IN NEW ZEALAND. The approximate numbers will be: 500 STUD EWES, 2-shear and over. 150 STUD EWES, 1-shear. 200 STUD EWE LAMBS. 15 STUD RAMS 2-shear and over. 40 STUD RAMS, 1-shear. 30 STUD RAM LAMBS. 220 FLOCK RAMS, 1-shear. 200 FLOCK RAM LAMBS.
