THE WEATHER I Sharp showers of rain were experienced in the early hours of yesterday morning and the day remained overcast. A strong wind from the southwest sprang up in the afternoon. The maximum temperature was 79.1 degrees. The evening was dull and overcast, and a few light showers of rain fell. Meteorological observations taken at the. The barometer fell after mid-day, and registered 29.90 in last evening, Wellington—The weather was cloudy and threatening at Wellington. A strong north-westerly wind prevailed, and several gusts of up to 64 miles an hour occurred before 10.15 a.m. Later, although still reaching gale force at times, the wind moderated somewhat. The maximum temperature was 74.4 degrees. Dunedin—Unsettled weather was experienced in Dunedin yesterday. A fresh south-west wind prevailed, and light rain fell at intervals throughout the day. The maximum temperature was 58 degrees. FORECAST (From readings taken at 4 p.m.) General Situation—A rather deep depression has been crossing the Dominion to-day, and a slight anti-cyclone is advancing over the Tasman Sea.
