ROYAL GUARD OF HONOUR

SENIOR JNFANTKY " ■ REGIMENT The Royal guard of honour to-day will be furnished by the First Battalion Canterbury Regiment, and will consist of Guard Commander, Captain F. E. Dornwell; second in command, A. T. Hurley; officer carrying King's Colours. Lieutenant A. E. Sluce, and 100 non-commissioned officers and men. The band accompanying the guard will be the band of the First Battalion Canterbury Regiment, and has a strength of 40 on parade. The band wears the spectacular full dress scarlet uniform of the Queen's Own Royal West Kent Regiment, to which the Canterbury Regiment is allied. The Canterbury Regiment which is providing the guard is the senior infantry regiment in New Zealand, and by virtue of its being the senior regiment it has for its colonel-in-chief his Majesty the King. It is not generally known that when the King's Colours is on parade all those in uniform should salute the Colour and civilians should pay compliment by raising their hats as the Colours pass by. DUKE'S ENGAGEMENTS DETAILED PROGRAMME A detailed list of the Duke's movements while he is in Christchurch is as follows: To-day 12 Noon —Arrive. Lay wreath at War Memorial. 12.15"p.m.—Civic reception. If weather is wet function will be held in Barracks in Cashel street. Concludes 12.30 p.m. 2.45 p.m.—Arrive Addington Trotting course. 4.4 p.m.—Leave trotting course. 4.30 —Polo game starts. 7.45 p.m.—Dinner at Christchurch Club. 9.30 p.m.—River carnival. His Royal Highness will make' short journey in launch and return to dais, immediately after which fireworks display will start. To-morrow 11 a.m.—Attend service at Anglican Cathedral. Monday 10.30 a.m.—Children's gathering; finishes 11 a.m. 2.20 p.m.—Leave hotel for Sandilands. 2.30 p.m.—Arrive Sandilands and lay foundation stone ot the administration block of the Returned Soldiers' Settlement Scheme (20 minutes). 2.50 p.m.—Depart Sandilands for Rannerdale Home. 3.5 p.m.—Arrive Rannerdale Home (spend 10 minutes there). 3.15 p.m.—Depart Rannerdale Home for Public Hospital. 3.27 p.m.—Arrive Public Hospital and walk through wards—children's ward and Chalmers ward (soldiers) particularly. Time occupied approximately 25 minutes. 3.52 p.m.—Depart Public Hospital. 3.55 p.m.—Arrive Canterbury Club (spend 15 minutes). 4.10 p.m.—Depart Canterbury Club. 4.13 p.m.—Arrive Canterbury Officers' Club, Worcester street (spend 15 minutes). 4.28 p.m.—Depart Canterbury Officers' Club. 4.30 p.m.—Arrive United Service Hotel. 5.55 p.m.—Leave by car for Lyttelton. boarding H.M.A.S. Australia and sailing for Russell, where a few days will be spent deep-sea fishing. The Duke of Gloucester will arrive at Lyttelton wharf at 6.25 p.m. and will inspect a guard of honour. At 6.30 there will be official farewells to the Mayor and Town Clerk of Lyttelton, the chairman and secretary of the Lyttelton Harbour Board, service representatives, and members of the ducal party. At G. 40 the Duke will go on board. The Governor-General will arrive and will have a guard of honour, and at (i.45 will go aboard H.M.A.S. Australia, where he will take leave of the Duke. His Excellency will come ashore at 7 p.m., and at 7.15 p.m. the Australia will go to sea. A Royal salute will be fired by a shore battery at Lyttelton as H.M.A.S. Australia leaves. These arrangements are subject to any slight alterations that may be necessary arising out of unforeseen emergencies. ARRANGEMENTS FOR POLO KII.M TO BE MADE OF THE GAME Arrangements have been completed for the game of polo to be played by the Duke of Gloucester at 4.30 p.m. to-day. A motion picture film will be made of the game, and will be the first to be made of a polo match in New Zealand. As the Christchurch Polo Club leases the ground it plays on, and is allowed to charge an entrance fee once a year, one shilling will be the price of admission to the ground today, but anyone who wishes may attend, as no invitation tickets are being issued. The money raised at the gate will be used for the improvement of the ground. For the first and fourth chukkas Mr D. W. J. Gould will be the fourth man in the Duke's team, while for the second and third Major G. F. Hutton will fill that place. The Christchurch Club's teams will be as follow:—First chukka—C. Bethell,, G. H. Grigg, R. Johnson, and G. 13. MeCrcdie. Second chukka—P. D Hall, G. H. Grigg, D. W. J. Gould, and 11. G. Livingstone. Third chukka—C Bethell, G. H. Grigg, R. Johnson, and 11. G. Livingstone. Fourth chukka— P. D. Hall. G. H. Grigg, G. F. Hutton, and G. B. McCredie. MADE IN CHRISTCHURCH ALBUM WITH LOYAL ADDRESS The album containing the local bodies' loyal address, to be presented to-day to Prince Henry, was produced by Messrs Whitcombe and Tombs, of Christchurch, and the casket of inlaid New Zealand woods, to contain the album, was made by Mr D. A. Donn, 59 Victoria street. The silver trowel with which the Prince will perform the ceremony of laying the foundation stone of the soldiers' settlement at Sandilands on Monday afternoon was made by Messrs Stewart. Dawson and Company, of Christchurch. LATE CARS TO-NIGHT TRAMWAY ARRANGEMENTS For the river carnival this evening the Christchurch Tramway Board has decided to run late tramcars to all the suburbs. It is expected that the function will attract a huge crowd, and that many of those who attend will stay late for the dancing which has been arranged on the green. The last tramcars usually leave the city on a Saturday night at 11.10, but to-night thev will be kept back until 11.30.
