TWO OUTSTANDING FAULTS

LACK OF PATIENCE ADVICE TO HOLIDAY MOTORISTS "Two of the most outstanding faults committed by motorists and motorcyclists over the Christmas holidays concerned the overtaking and passing of other vehicles," says the latest safety first message of the Automobile Association Canterbury (Inc.). "Though in no great hurry there are hundreds of drivers and riders absolutely lacking in patience on the roadway," says the association. "Such road users will not be content to travel at a reasonable pace behind a procession of vehicles. They will not be satisfied until they are in front of everything. To get there scores of drivers and riders resort to extremely dangerous tactics, such as speeding tip and passing on a curve m the road, one of the most foolhardy things to do. There have been dozens of instances of that type of road carelessness in le last fortnight, particularly on the North road, but the practice is not one peculiar to' any district There have been instances also of the higmy Serous practice of trying to cut-in between vehicles closely placed m a long procession, though the national regulations explicitly define the distances within which one is allowed o n p C als 2nd precede pother car S«ne ,jT.iirw« have even taken the risK ox Snlnfup the middle of the Main North road past a line of caisana making it obligatory for oncoming traffic to make room. The to o aoi three vehicles being m line at a time is obvious to anyone.
