Duggan. of its Salvation Army, who for the last two years have been stationed at Greymouth, have received notice of transfer. Mrs W. H. Rishel, of California, who has been spending several months visiting her mother. Mrs E. Nicholson, and brother. Mr W. A. Nicholson, at Marsden. will leave to-morrow for Auckland, accompanied by her niece. Miss S. Nicholson, to join the Mariposa for Los Angeles. Mr and Mrs V. Curtis will leave tomorrow on return to Taumarunui. Obituary The death has occurred of Mr Samuel Cameron, sen., of Omoto, at the age of 87 years. Mr Cameron was a native of Londonderry, Ireland, and came to Nev Zealand more than 60 years ago, settling at Kaiata. He worked on tne construction of the Midland railway from Greymouth to Brunner. and was employed for 23 years, until he retired, as a surfaceman for the Railway Department. Relief Work for MinerS" The Labour Department has dec*K to pay £1 to each of the Dobson* 110 Wallsend miners entitled ~> relief. The payment will be made at the end of this week. A list of th= men entitled to relief work und&r the unemployment scheme is being prepared by the Labour Department, and this includes single men. and those recently dismissed at the Wallsend mine. When the list is completed, the time to which the men are entitled, will be worked when the mines are idle. Otira Tunnel Freight Last week, freight hauled through the Otira tunnel from west to east was 1857 tons, compared with 1891 tons in the corresponding week of 1933 and 1723 tons in 1932. Presentation Mr H. M. Petrie. who has resigned from the staff of the Railway Department, Greymouth, to take up farming in the Cheviot district, was met by fellow employees at the Railway Hall and presented with two Loewe pipes, a tobacco pouch, and a razor and strop.
