Richardson has sold Rin Tin Tin to a patron of T. P. Wilson's stable. The price is reported to have been £.50. No doubt the handicapper's .very flattering estimate of Rin Tin Tin at Oamaru helped this sale.

Southland Apprentice C. T. Wilson, who has been attached ©n loan to Mr W. T. Hazlett's stable in Melbourne for the last Ave months, returned to Invercargill last week. A broken collarbone received when a hofse feU with hjm in a race in Australia has practically mended, and he will resume riding again next week. It if understood that he will do some Tiding again for Mr Hazlett in Australia. next Easter.

Waaganui Autumn Meeting ;The Wanganui Jockey Club has made arrangements to race on January 31 and February 2, 1935. This is a. fortnight earlier than usual, and follow® four days after the Wellington •jfoflng Club, the last day of Which is January 26. This alteration will mean that Wanganui nominations will close ©it Friday, January 11, at 8 p.m., and to overcome the difficulty occasioned by rehandicaps after the Wellington meeting, weights will be published on Friday, January 25, the day before the close of the Wellington meeting. The short period between the declaration of weights and the day for taking acceptances may not allow sufficient time for a list of the weights to reach all those interested, but they will be published in all the leading newspapers on Friday, January 25, and the acceptances for first day's events will close on Monday, January 28, at 8 pjn. These new dates offer owners and trainers an opportunity of taking their horses to Wanganui following the Wellington meeting. Stakes have also been increased. The club's pumping plant has been broucht into commission, and the course proper has been watered regularly, which will ensure a good track for the racing.

; TROTTING NOTES Reminders Acceptances for the Canterbury HPark meeting will close on Friday at 12 noon. A Non-Starter floodlight will not be a starter in the New Zealand Champion Stakes at Ashburtoti to-day. The Rey de Oro fielding has been troubled with his feet of late, and has not done much last work. A Useful Team The Hamilton owner-trainer C. Moran will Have a useful team in fMna Worthy, Bonnie Direct, and Meadow King racing at the Wairarapa «n«n»«ng to-day. All are expected to race well. Impromptu, from the same ■stable, will be driven in his Auckland engagements by J. S. Shaw. Indianapolis at Epsom Indianapolis, in a work-out at Epsom yesterday, created a very favourable impression on track-watchers, when he went a mile and a half in 3min 28 3*ssec, establishing a training record for the distance. The work was done or the extreme outside of the grass track and at least 40 feet out from the rails. The Aldington pacer is in fine order and. is now a very warm favourite for the Auckland Cup, which will be run to-morrow. The excellent work accomplished yesterday by other Canterbury horses suggests a fair share of prize-money being won by South Island owners.

ASHBURTON T.C. TO-DAY'S PROGRAMME The only programme of horse racing in Canterbury to-day is that provided by the Ashburton Trotting Club, which has presented a first-rate programme of entertainment for light harness enthusiasts. This meeting is one of the most popular one-day fixtures in New Zealand, and can always be depended upon to attract a big crowd and to provide first-class racing. The long spell of dry weather has made the track very fast, but even if heavy rain falls there is no course in New Zealand better suited to take the moisture and still provide good- going. While the Ashburton Cup has drawn a field of very useful class horses much interest will be taken in the race for the Champion Stakes, in which' the crack three-year-old Gamble will be opposed by a useful field. ,„ T . Visitors from Christchurch and North Canterbury districts will be well catered for in the matter of transport. Two special passenger trains will run, the first, leaving at 9.35 a.m., taking passengers from Christchurch, Addington, Hornby, Templeton, and Rakaia only. The second train, which will commence the journey at 9.50 a.m., will stop at Sockburn, Rolleston, and Dunsandel only. The first train will commence the return journey from the racecourse siding at 5.10 p.m., and will be followed by another train at 5.23 p.m. The single pool system of betting will operate. In races with less than five starters only one dividend will be paid, with eight starters there will be two dividends, and in races with nine or more starters backers of first, secand, and third horses will share in the distribution. The day's programme is as follows;

18 noon— MITCHAM HANDICAP, of 136 sovs. For trotters. 3min 49eec class. One mile and a half. Ann Parrish .. scr Harvest Lady scr Axiom .. ser Master Wrack ser Bittersweet .. scr Parette .. scr Braemar • • scr Renova - . scr Fluko . . scr Winsome Laddie scr Great Princesß Onyx 24 Harvester scr Sonoma King .. 34 Great Walter Wrack ' 36 Horatius scr The majority of the trotters engaged in the Mitcham Handicap have little public form to recommend them, but Princess Onyx is a fine young trotter likely to enter high-class company. A win at the recent New Brighton meeting earned her a penalty of 24 yards, but this may not be sufficient to bring her down to the level of some of the others engaged. Bittersweet, another juvenile, has also shown promising form, and the racing she has done should have improved her. Walter Wrack, on 36 yards behind, is very speedy but at times erratic, and on his best behaviour he may add interest to the race. Harvest Laay showed speed but lack of stamina at New Brighton, and Sonoma King has disappointed in his recent efforts. Princess Onyx, Bittersweet, and Walter Wrack may be the favourites.

Handicapping: Systems With the different trotting bodies In Australia and New Zealand endeavouring to co-operate to make the light harness game bigger and better, there is little doubt that it will not be long before •we get a uniform method of handicapping, says a Sydney paper. What system will be used is not known, but it is certain that the New South Wales Trotting Club will fight hard to retain that which they have adopted/ Adapted from the system in New Zealand it has given general satisfaction to owners and trainers and the public. The New South Wales Trotting Club's method, however, can be improved upon, and it Is certain j that the views of all interested parties be considered before a uniform handicapping system is adopted. A Promising Pacer Under T. Wallis's charge Single Lee is looking better than ever before, says the "Southland Times." His 3mln 24sec at the Winton Jockey Club's [meeting last month for second money was an eye-opener, and by far his best effort to date. His work of late has been much more spirited than has been the case with the Lee Norris gelding for some time, and he will strip very well this week. By Wellington Direct The novice, Prairie Duke (Wellington Direct—Prairie Chimes) is set down to make his debut during the holidays and while he still appears on the big side, he worked out quite well with John Desborough at Winton on Saturday over a mile and a half, and hung on well for a three-year-old. He will be the first of the stock of Wellington Direct to race in southern parte.

Amongst the | field are several fast-improving pacers, and ■ Handicapper. a half-brother to Impromptu, will be in demand. He is a big, overgrown gelding, and may still need time. The bracketed horses Lord Axworthy and Thornworthy will possibly be the favourite selection, with a distinct preference for the former, and Zest, though she has yet to win a race, is a good pacer. Betty Jinks appears to be coming back to her best form, and General Sarsfield is a possibility. Of those not on the limit the chances of Carrageen and Doris Derby appeal. In a very open race the chances of Lord Axworthy, Betty Jinks, and Zest may be favoured. 1.25 p.m.— ASHBPRTON TROTTING CUP, of 300 sovs. 4min 35sec cHbb. Two milos. Of the four horses on the limit Rey Spec appears to be the best, for he has raced without a great deal of luck and he will stay every yard of the journey. Willow Wave, however, would only have to do his best to be very troublesome. Four horses will start off the 12 yards mark, and Queen Author's good showing at New Brighton shows that she is near her best. Taxpayer has improved and is overdue for a win, and he may prove better than others on the same mark. Lilian Bond has been doing good track work, and at her best she is a class mare. She has not raced for some time, and may need a race before she shows her best form over a two miles journey. Elvo, Gay Gordon, and Waress are the back-markers on 36 yards behind, and on form shown this season the former looks to have the best chance. She has raced well on grass tracks and will not be troubled by the going. A fine contest

should take place, and the best appear to be Elvo; Key Spec, and Lilian Bond. CHAMPION STAKES,, of 500 sots Sor three-year-olds. One mile and a naif. Mrs D. R. The others are of even calibre, and any mistakes on the part of Gamble may make the race interesting. A promising filly in Radiant Gold is better than her public performances have shown, and Levity, if at his best. Ironside, Graham Direct, and Grace McElwyn have all won races. Gamble appears to have a royal chance of adding to his record, and the minor places may be filled by Graham Direct and Radiant Gold. 2.45 p.m.— McLEAN HANDICAP, of 200 sots. Smin Slseo class. Sylvia Sydney showed form on the second day of the Forbury Park meeting that would enable her to win a race of this class, Jimmy de Oro won at New Brighton like a true racehorse, and his chances must be considered. He is in rare form. On 12 yards behind are two consistent performers. Wise Guy and Recess. The former has two victories to his credit out of three starts this season, and while Recess was not at her best for the New Brighton meeting, she fully, extended the crack three-year-old Gamble. This was an impressive performance. The finish should find Sylvia Sydney, Recess, and Wise Guy in the places. 3.25 p.m.— . WINSLOW HANDICAP, ef 225 bo»s. For trotters. Smin 30see class. Raclaim is on 12 yards, virtual scratch, and a good solid trotter, she will be suited by the journey. Coupled with First Wrack on 60 yards, she completes a very strong bracket. Cannonball has not shown form for some time, but he still retains his speed, and this is a race to suit him. Sea Gift, on 24 yards behind, is fast developing into a crack trotter, and here she appears to hold a royal chance. Explosion on 48 yards has been doing good work on the tracks, and he must be seriously considered. A capital race should find Sea Gift, Explosion, and First Wrack in the places.

4.6 p.m.— MIDSUMMER HANDICAP, of 200 bovs. 3min 26Bec class. One mile and a half. Todd Lonzia William Tell . • 12 (T.) acr Worthy King , 13 Agile •. 12 Goldfield . . 24 Great Antrim. 12 Little Nelson 24 .Tolly Wave .. 12 Rey Spec ..24 Prince Author 12 Willow Wave 24

Another handy-sized field of 11 will race in the Midsummer Handicap, and the recent form shown by Agile entitles him to the serious consideration of backers. At Forbury Park he won like a class racehorse, and repeated the performance at New Brighton. He is in his best form and is bound to run a good race. Great Antrim at times has shown a lot of speed but at others has not impressed. Prince Author won the Australasian Handicap of two miles at Addington last month in 4min 25 l-ssec. in a style that showed him to be a greatly improved gelding, and he will run the race at a merry clip from end to end. Little Nelson will find the journey to his liking, but in what appears to be a very open race, the chances of Agile, Prince Author, and Great Antrim look the best.

4.46 p.m.— BOXING DAT HANDICAP, of 275 boys. 3min 21sec class. One mile and a half. Warbuoy is one of the outstanding performers of the year, and he will have numerous admirers in the Boxing Day Handicap. He is getting amongst the good class horses, and the race will not be won without a struggle. Cloudy Range and Pete® Locanda on scratch are also smart pacers, and Muriel de Oro on 12 yards has recently shown a return to her best form, while Pegaway on 24 yards is handily placed. Warbuoy, Cloudy Range, and Muriel de Oro should race well.

EPSOM TRAINING NOTES INDIANAPOLIS BREAKS RECORD [THB PEESS Special Ssrrlc#.] AUCKLAND, December 25. By running a mile and a half on the grass track, with the flags 40 feet out, in 3min 28 3-ssec, the Royal Trotting Cup favourite, Indianapolis, established a training record at Epsom today. The course was in good order, and the horse did his work in very easy style. Other visiting horses to work impressively were Lindbergh, Roi l'Or, Auburn Lad, Blue Mountain, Subsidy, Smoke Screen, Mataunga, Wahnooka, Mocast, and Smooger. Indianapolis, by himself worked a mile and a half in 3min 28 3-ssec. He ran the first quarter mile in 36sec, half-mile in Imin llsec, mile in 2min 21 2-ssec, and the last half comfortably in lmin 7- l-ssec. He created a deep impression. Lindbergh and Roi l'Or finished together just in front of Auburn Lad over two miles in smin 3sec, the last half-mile in lmin 7 3-ssec. They put the pace on only in the final stages, and all went very solidly. Harold Logan, going very easily alongside Superfine and Colonial Boy, took 3min 2sec for a mile and a quarter, the last half-mile in lmin 9sec. The champion is feeling the strain of recent hard racing, and does not appear to be very sound. Blue Mountain had no difficulty in holding Subsidy and Proletarian at the end of two miles in smin Bsec, the last half-mile in lmin 10 2-ssec. Subsidy worked nicely, and made friends for his Derby engagement. Mataunga and Wahnooka ran two miles in smin llsec, the last half-mile in lmin llsec. Silver Watcfli ran the last half-mile of a mile and a half in lmin Bsec, and the maiden, Agnes Bingen, surprised by. going the last half-mile of a mile and a quarter in lmin 7sec. Considering that it was really the final galloping morning, the work at Wingatui this morning was uninteresting. The firmness of the going makes trainers afraid of breaking their horses down and what little fast work was done was on the heavily top-dressed plough track. Christchurch, Ashburton, and Washdyke horses arrived by special train. Most of, them were trotted or cantered later in the ingGrand Finale does not look well and is not pleasing his trainer. He completed a circuit by running home the last half mile in 55 2-ssec. Queen of Song, who looks well, was let off with two rounds at half-pace. Oliver was sent a mile and a quarter, but was always under restraint, and covered the last nine furlongs in 2min 10 l-ssec.

Te Ahaurangi ran three furlongs pleasingly in 39sec. Last Link and Royal Pal ran nine furlongs well within themselves, the last seven taking lmin 41sec. Travenna, well bandaged . behind, was given half-pace work over two circuits and pulled up sound. Tizzy, with her trainer up, was under a strong hold when running home the last three furlongs of a circuit in 41 3-ssec. Jaunt jumped three hurdles well, taking lmin 17sec from the first to the third hurdle. Parrocha and Granada were sent over four hurdles. At the second fence Granado hit hard and then fell at the fourth. Parrocha always had it on him for speed and jumping, but they did not go as fast as Jaunt. Morena, looking none the worse for his unauthorised gallop up the hill on Saturday, ran the last seven furlongs of a circuit in lmin 38sec. Pala Melba and Linguist ran half a mile in 52 3-ssec. Meadow Lark ran three furlongs in 36 4-ssec. ... Last March took 38sec for the same distance along the back. Dressy took 60 2-ssec to run half a mile, but was not extended. Carl, with Rongomai as a companion, trotted a mile and a half in 3min 54sec, the last six furlongs at a 2min 30sec gait. Parrish Belle trotted two miles in smin 3sec, the last half-mile in lmin llsec. Blondie broke twice in a two miles task, and Was pulled up, and Compass registered an easy mile and a half.

AUCKLAND B.C. [TJtB PBSBS SytcUl Ssnrie*.] AUCKLAND; December 25. Conditions promise, to be very favourable for the opening of the Auckland Racing Club's summer meeting at Ellerslie to-morrow. The weather has been very hot to-day, and the track is in perfect condition, so that 6ome fast performances may be anticipated. Sweet Agnes has been withdrawn from the Auckland Cup owing to developing lameness, but the other candidates have finished up their preparations splendidly. None has been more impressive in his final work than King March, the fittest horse in the field, also Vintage, Kiftowyn, and Spiral, and it is on the cards that these horses will play a prominent part in the contest. Horses likely to be solidly supported in their engagements are:— Queen's Plate —Kelly, Lady Kyra, King Musk. Great Northern Foal Stakes—Haut Monde, Galilee, Legatee. Robinson Handicap—Crooning, Tunneller, Merry Lap.

Namakia and Galilee were responsible for the best effort, in running four furlongs in 48 4-ssec. Galilee received the better of the jump off, but Namakia was soon with her, and they finished together. Both are in excelI lent order and should race prominently to-morrow. Cricket Bat and Rocket went solidly oyer six furlongs in lmin IS 4-ssec, finishing together. They are in fine racing trim, and have been working very satisfactorily. Bun Fight rati three furlongs nicely in 37 2-ssec. It is thought probable that she will run in the Nursery Handicap in preference to the Great Northern Foal Stakes, and she should be very difficult to beat. . i

Solarium, after giving Mungatoon a break of a couple of lengths, had his companion's measure at toe end of a soundly run., half-mile in 49 3-ssec. Solarium is full of muscle, and has come through a sound preparation attractively. Big Dook and Delraih sprinted half a mile in 49 ■ 2-ssec. Big Dook has plenty of speed and may be a possibility for a hack race at the meeting. Lady Ruler and Prolyxo dashed over three furlongs in 36 3-ssec. They finished together, and Lady Ruler appears to be an improved filly. Lionheart and Golden Princess were associated over three furlongs in 37 l-ssec. with the former going the stronger at the finish. Lionheart has been working -.well at Te Rapa, arid may be solidly supported in the Robinson Handicap. Scotch Nation; an improving. hack, ran four furlongs in 50 4-ssec, the last three in 37sec. Riding Engagements Riding engagements are as-follows: H. N. Wiggins, Solarium, Mother Superior, Princess Doreen, Going, Gay, Sir Abb; B. Reed, Kiltmvyn, Cherry King,

■" MANAWATU R.C. . [THE ?BBBS Social Serrtce.J WELLINGTON, December 25. There will be a South Island interest in the racing at Manawatu on December 26, 27, and 29, because the teams of Sir Charles Clifford and Dr. M. G. Louisson are engaged. The weather continues dry and hot, and unless there is a change before the races the track will be firm and fast. Some watering of the course proper near the rails is possible at Awapuni, and to some extent the going has been eased; but rain is badly needed to ease the difficulties experienced by trainers in keeping their charges up to concert pitch on the hard tracks. The acceptances received are good. The' betting will be under the single pool (75-25) system. The following may be fancied in their engagements:— Maiden Plate —State ~" Bank and Owlsgleam. Tokomaru Highweight Handicap— Royal Banquet and Round Score. Tararua Hack Handicap—Blue Boy and Pango. Manawatu Cup—Hazoor and Passion Fruit (or Catalogue). Nursery Handicap—llias and Hororata. Gillies' Hack Handicap—Alby and Pladie. Fitzherbert Handicap—Farmer and Autopay. Grandstand Handicap—Fracas and West Tor. The following is the programme:—

PALMERSTON N„ December 24. Hot, dusty conditions prevailed for track operations at Awapuni this morning, and there were few visitors. Little of interest was accomplished. A. Cutts with Fracas, Knock Out, Hororata, and Owlsgleam; P. Reardon, with Korero, Miladi, Revision, Nightguard, and Diana; and J. W. Lowe, with Red Sun and Sunee, are to hand and furnished interest to the i operations. Fracas was travelling better than Knock Out at the . close of six furlongs on the plough in lmin 18.1-5 sec, the first three in 38sec. Red Sun was to have sprinted three furlongs, but was not speeded up till the run home;. He took 44sec for the distance. Hororata and Owlsgleam ran the first two furlongs in 25sec, and five furlongs in lmin ssec. Owlsgleam, who had the outside running and greater poundage, impressed. Warvane had True Shaft as a companion over five furlongs. Both had light-weights up, particularly the former, but Warvane registered a good effort, being clear of his companion after running the distance in lmin ssec. Pango and Blue Boy were partners over seven furlongs, the former having the advantage at the close. The first half mile was covered in 52sec, and the full distance in lmin 33sec. Not a single defection from Wednesday's fields has been announced. More than 12,000 gallons of water was sprayed on the course proper yesterday.
